The Joint Committee of Parliament (JPC) has accepted the Waqf draft report with 14 votes in opposition to 11. The Opposition members have been requested to submit their dissent notes by 4:00 pm as we speak (January 29). The Waqf assembly has ended within the nationwide capital on Wednesday.

The chairman of the Joint Committee of Parliament scrutinising the Waqf (Modification) Invoice, Jagdambika Pal, has mentioned the panel’s draft report and the amended model of the proposed legislation will probably be adopted at its assembly on Wednesday.

He made the remarks to the media as he chaired what is probably going the final assembly of the committee.

Opposition members to offer ‘dissent notice’

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant mentioned all opposition members will give their dissent. Pal is prone to submit the amended model of the proposed legislation to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday.

Forward of the assembly, a number of opposition MPs met to debate their agenda as lots of them are getting ready their dissent in opposition to the committee’s suggestions. The Waqf (Modification) Invoice, 2024, was referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on August 8, 2024 following its introduction within the Lok Sabha by Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.

The invoice goals to amend the Waqf Act, 1995, to handle points and challenges in regulating and managing waqf properties.
