A village authority and civil society organisations of the Naga tribes in Manipur have condemned an alleged assault by members of the Kuki tribes on a lady over her try to construct a home on a plot of land within the village, which the village authority says is completely a Liangmai Naga village.
The Konsakhul (Konsaram) Village Authority in a memorandum on Wednesday stated the “Leilon Vaiphei have been allowed to settle as tenants on land of the Konsaram Naga,” and now they need to vacate the village land in 15 days.
The girl’s brother advised reporters they went to construct a home on a plot in Okay Lungwiram Naga village when some 30 males from the Kuki tribes got here and assaulted her.
He alleged in addition they threatened to burn the tools together with a bulldozer if his sister insisted on constructing her home.
Okay Lungwiram village falls underneath Kangchup Geljang subdivision in Kangpokpi district, 45 km from the state capital Imphal. The Vaiphei tribe is a part of the umbrella time period Kuki.
“… You will have blatantly ignored the truth that on humanitarian grounds Leilon Vaiphei have been allowed to settle as tenants on the land of Konsaram Naga. Of late, you will have been indulging in anti-social actions, focusing on harmless Naga villagers within the Konsaram space, displaying scant regard to our generosity and kindness,” the Konsakhul (Konsaram) Village Authority stated within the memorandum.
“… Because the lease settlement signed between the owner (Konsaram) and the tenant (Leilon) have already expired, subsequently you might be hereby requested to vacate your village from the land of Konsaram inside 15 days from the date of issuing this order. Failing which you may be forcefully evicted from our soil…” the village authority stated.
The village authority despatched the memorandum to the Manipur chief secretary, safety adviser Kuldiep Singh, the state police chief and different officers.
The girl who alleged she was assaulted by males from the Kuki tribe appealed to Naga civil society organisations for assist. She alleged the attackers broke her cellphone, and pushed and hit her. Her brother shared a video wherein a gaggle of males have been seen charging in direction of a bulldozer in an open area.
“I’m the one who was assaulted,” the girl advised reporters, flanked by her brother. “I got here to my village, needed to construct a home. The Kukis stated I am unable to construct a home there. Some 10-20 of them got here, attacked me. They broke my cellphone and pushed me down on the bottom.”
Her brother alleged the lads used “very dangerous language on her.”
No Kuki organisation within the district has given an announcement on the matter but.
Liangmai Naga Ladies Announce Blockade
Numerous girls from the Liangmai Naga tribe introduced an “indefinite blockade” of Makhan Gate, a key thoroughfare within the space.
Indigenous Individuals’s Discussion board president Ashang Kasar sought fast motion from the district administration and regulation enforcement companies, and assurance of security and safety for the Naga villagers of Okay Lungwiram.

In December, a number of civil society organisations of the Naga tribes in Manipur condemned alleged assault by Kuki “volunteers” on members of a pupil’ physique of their tribes in Manipur’s Senapati district. The Senapati District College students’ Affiliation (SDSA) alleged their members have been “brutally assaulted and harassed” by Kuki volunteers in Gamgiphai within the district.
The matter was solved after members of the Kangpokpi-based Kuki group Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), the Kuki College students Organisation (KSO), and the Senapati Motion Committee (SAC) met on December 26 to defuse rigidity. As a part of the settlement, CoTU needed to supply a written apology.
