Tumakuru:
A Deputy Superintendent of Police was arrested and suspended after a video, which allegedly confirmed him sexually harassing a girl who approached him with a grievance, went viral on social media, police mentioned on Friday.
The 58-year-old officer, recognized as Ramachandrappa, was posted as DSP in Madhugiri, they mentioned.
Within the purported video, the senior police officer will be seen misbehaving with the girl and appearing inappropriately.
Based on police, the alleged incident occurred on Thursday when the girl visited Ramachandrappa’s workplace in Tumakuru to complain a couple of land dispute. The lady has alleged that he took her to a room and misbehaved along with her, touching her inappropriately.
Nevertheless, the incident was recorded by an individual from outdoors the window and later went viral on social media platforms.
Stating the incident as a critical matter, a senior police officer mentioned the division is not going to tolerate harassment or violence towards girls.
“We’ve registered a case below sections 68 (sexual activity by an individual in authority), 75 (sexual harassment), and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and have arrested the DYSP. He has additionally been suspended from service,” he mentioned.
The case is being investigated by an officer of the rank of Extra Superintendent of Police, police added.
