Chaos was reported from Saibol in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district as Kuki-Zo civil society teams alleged highhandedness by safety forces throughout protests by the ladies of their neighborhood.
The protest was in opposition to what the ladies alleged was the forceful occupation of neighborhood bunkers by safety personnel.
Safety forces reportedly deployed tear fuel shell and used power, the Kuki-Zo teams claimed. A number of girls claimed they have been manhandled, pushed, and dragged.
A few of the injured girls have been taken to the closest hospital, which is 2 hours away, some got first support in a close-by villages.
Following the crackdown on girls, the Kuki-Zo teams have demanded that Central forces be faraway from Saibol.
The Committee on Tribal Unity of CoTU of Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi district, has issued a stern warning to the federal government, demanding the speedy withdrawal of Central Forces from Saibol by 4 pm.
