A volcano erupted late Wednesday on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwest Iceland, the nationwide climate service mentioned, the seventh since final December.
The Icelandic Meteorological Workplace (IMO) mentioned in an announcement that the eruption befell on the Sundhnuksgigar volcanic fissure, outdoors the city of Grindavik, at 2314 GMT.
Stay footage confirmed lava gushing from a protracted fissure on the scene.
IMO specialist Benedikt Ofeigsson informed public radio RAS2 that no infrastructure was at present threatened, however Grindavik — a small fishing city — was being evacuated.
The eruption is the seventh since December and comes after years of elevated seismic exercise within the area.
