On this event, Chief of Defence Employees (CDS) Common Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Military Employees Common Upendra Dwivedi, and different senior officers lay wreaths on the Nationwide Conflict Memorial.
Infantry Day is widely known yearly to commemorate the touchdown of the first Battalion of the SIKH Regiment at Srinagar airfield on 27 Oct 1947 to guard the individuals of Jammu and Kashmir from the nefarious designs of Pakistani Kabaili Raiders aided by the Pakistan Military.
This gallant motion resulted within the foiling of Pakistan’s plans to occupy Jammu and Kashmir. Infantry is often known as the “Queen of the Battle” and its historical past is as outdated as the primary human conflict.
As per a authorities launch, the infantry has performed an important function within the military in defending the sovereignty of the nation since independence. Be it the conflict of 1962 with China or of 1947-48 with Pakistan, be it the conflict of 1965, 71, or the 1999 Kargil battle.
The contribution of infantry in triumphing these historic wars is unparalleled.
Aside from these wars, the Counter Insurgency/ Counter Terrorist Operations in North and North East, Op BLUE STAR and Op RAKSHAK in Punjab, Op PAWAN in Sri Lanka, and not too long ago Op SNOW LEOPARD in Japanese Ladakh have been the continual witness of the sheer professionalism and dedication of infantry which ultimately led to success of those operations, an official launch stated.
